Well, different schools for sure but modeling was happening way before
computers.Slide rules and log tables were the tools of the
trade.Granted, the radiating element(s) was(were) developed first by
default(Hertz,Tesla,Maxwell,Marconii,etc) and thus transmission lines
were developed to enable low loss power transmission to the radiating
element(s).But that is the historic progression.Take a look at Electric
Radio#211 Dec. '06 page 35. Picture shows 9BSP and wife 9UA and a
"cage" antenna.Who thought that one out and how, and how well, did it
work? Can it be modeled in any fashion or method?(maybe now with
software). Was it designed by experiment or after a snifter of
brandy? The date is 1923, before either of my parents were born. The
"glory" days of invention and patent wars was just beginning....
(Off Topic)Some things don't change though;I'm going to sit back and
see how Apple, inc. fares against Cysco Sys. in the Iphone debacle. After
recently being "down sized" my first interview was with Apple for a
position in "Ipod special projects". I declined to work for them as
they were the most arrogant bunch I have ever met.Napoleon complex all
the way around;and the Boss man (B.Gates) promotes that attitude as the
path to success, but at the expense of the engineers' and technicians'
personal lives.Heard about too many broken marriages from Apple
employees and ex employees.

We must have went to different schools. The first antennas
were designed years before transmission lines were invented.
When computers, and modeling, came along a great many
things had to fit into a mold, or else. You have done your
homework, I see, so keep learning. The most important thing
is not how the numbers and graphs look on the computer, but
how in your own mind the thing works and interacts. Concepts
are most important, but they're impossible to teach in this
automated age. 73 Clete
