Hello All -

Well hate to be a project killer Royal Signals has a simple 
inverter/converter see :

I like the addition of the reed relay that senses Filament current and 
turns on the HV inverter.

All sorts of additions can be added
   Auto sense input voltage from 6, .... to 48 volts
Output voltages selectable
   provide regulated 1.5, 6, 12, 24 filament voltage
   provide regulated B+ 135, 220, ....... Voltages  Screen voltages?
Consider using various Switching speeds with Pulse Width Modulation to 
control voltages.

A challenge would be designing and building a transformer for the HighV  
+ ScreenV with cheap and obtainable parts!

Oh am spinning out of control with ideas:  This should be an interesting 
thread.
