[Milsurplus] BC-611 power

All: How about this: a 12 V fil xfmr (Signal transformer makes some good
PC-mount jobs) fed with a pair of transistors driven by an LM555C
oscillator. I'm lazy and don't want to do the feedback routine. You could
even have the thing run at 60 Hz if you wanted to that way.

OK, all this talk about power supplies for portable MilCom gear got me
talking to N3PBR, my next door neighbor, who is an adjunct professor of
Electrical Engineering at Wilkes University here in town.

My thoughts were to suggest to Dave that his undergrads needed a project:
design, prototype and produce a dc-to-dc converter for BC-611s,
PRC-6,8,9,10, etc, etc. He didn't say "no" so we may be onto something here.
It will keep our money in the States and I have indicated that the units
need to be serviceable not potted in epoxy as some imported units are.

| Gents:
|
| I, too, buy all my milbatts at the Dollar Store. I really don't need
long service life for the few times I have my milrads on the air each year.
I save my money for important things like a metal brake and RS 9V batt
snaps.
