[Milsurplus] BC-611 power

I think for overall ease of operation and reliability a simple battery
tray for the B plus and a modern D cell for filaments is the way to go. I
purchase my 9 volt batteries at the Dollar Store.( two batteries for a buck)
A tray of batteries will easily last a hamfest/rally season. You can not
service the Italian inverter, when they go bad they are done. Anyone can
bend a piece of aluminum into a U shaped tray an fabricate a wood piece for
each end.

I have built an inverter for a BC-611 but was never happy with the
inherent noise but did successfully use it at Dayton on the 3885 net and at
several hamfests and military rallies.

Details of a simple battery tray can be found at the link below and at
the end of that piece there is a link to the filament supply using a PVC
holder.

On my filament page there is a CAUTION about using D cells in parallel
as several of us have experience having a D cell go bad internally and
shorting out the other cell which created quite a bit of heat so I do not
recommend storing any set that has D cells in parallel.

I now use a single D cell for the filaments with a PVC spacer. Todays D
cells are much better than the D cells of WW II and a single cell should
suffice.
