As Robert indicated, that almost certainly is the sign of having been refurbished at a depot. In that case, the new serial number assigned bears no relation to the original. Sometimes the new metal nomenclature tag will be rivited onto the top rim of the front panel.
These units must have been *very* expensive when new, so it seems that something more durable than a decal should have been used as the nomenclature and serial number plate. I think the only "original" metal name plates that I've ever seen on units in this series were on the RT-70B/GRC units, built after 1957.
As for later US Army gear, I have a RT-841/PRC-77 that was made in 1976 and depot overhauled to like-new condition in 1993. The depot pulled the original metal name plate and rivited in one of their own.
