I'm a LORAN buff here, and rather than collect the receivers I've taken
to collecting the morale uniform patches that USCG authorized for LORAN
station personnel.

They're quite colorful, and some of them are pretty humorous in thier
unit mottos...  like Attu Island in the Aleutians (fifty miles from
nowhere, and a "hardship post" if ever there was one) said it all:
ATTU, HOME OF THE HORNY BIRD! When you're stuck on a rock in the Aleutians
for a one year tour of duty, I'd say that says it ALL!  <<grin>>


Other patch mottos are more relevant to LORAN itself.

Nantucket's motto: THE POWER BEHIND THE PULSE

Caribou, Maine: YOU CAN'T GET THERE FROM HERE

Raymondville, Texas: TIMING IS EVERYTHING
