After Korea, the Navy installed BC-610's in some Reserve Centers and Training
Facilities. They had a rather nice outboard VFO custom built for them. I
had one in the late 60's (and the BC-610-F it went with). I know what happed to
the 610 but have no recollection of where the VFO went except that I don't
think I recovered it after coming home from Vietnam. In case anyone should ever
stumble across one, it was from very dim memory maybe 14" wide and sat on top
of the transmitter, connected to whichever TU was currently in use by a
double banana plug into the crystal socket. My -F had an SO-239 installed on the
rear lip of the top cover. VFO used miniature tubes and had an internal AC
supply. Was band-switching and had a Millen or similar tuning dial. Finished in
gray or maybe gray hammertone. That's about all I remember about it, except
that it had a tendency to chirp.
