[Milsurplus] Alexanderson alternator on Xmas eve

Well, maybe in that case I can claim I heard them. Although barely above the
noise. I was expecting them to send SAQ over and over and what I heard at
about 02:45 local was what sounded like a bunch of "V"s just barely
readable. I assumed it was me. Then that went away after about 5 minutes and
at 03:00 local I again started hearing CW, but it sounded like random
characters. Again, I was expecting to hear SAQ. Never copied anything well
enough above the noise to make out what was transmitted. If what I did hear
was them, then I am really surprised at the clean tone quality. Here again,
I was expecting something that may sound like a spark rig. Well, it was my
first attempt. The problem was that trying to narrow the filter down to 100
Hz in my receiver just resulted in way too much ringing, due to the high
noise level, so, I had to stay at the 3.1 KHz setting. Maybe next year, if I
try again. I doubt however that I will be able to get at my RAL in the
basement in just a year's time, HI. 73 & Merry Christmas - Mike

Good conditions in MA. Heard "vvv"s starting around 0745, and most of the
text at 0800. Very little static, and not too much grubble from the power
system. Weak signal with slow fading. Geräte: RAL and 500 foot wire.
