Jim asked:

>Anyone know the name for the power connector that fits into
>the front of an RA-1B?

The six-pin power (dynamotor) connection on the RA-1B is a PL-106 (pins are labeled 14 to 19). The only one that I've ever run across is the one on my RA-1J. The other plug goes to the control box and is a more common PL-63 eight-pin connector.

>Equally important: Where can I get one?

If Robert/WA5CAB can't help, maybe William Perry Company can.

>I'm feeding mine from the backup pin jack receptacles on the lower right.

I've always wondered why they put banana jack power and audio connections on the RA-1 front panel.

There is a very good and complete pdf copy of the RA-1B, I, J manual at the BAMA manual website. It's filed under "bendix" on the main page.

The RA-1 seems to be a pretty good design for a late 1930's aircraft receiver. It's not as good as the BC-224/348 design which goes back to 1937, but at least it had some capability for remote control that the BC-348 receivers lacked.

The RA-10-series that followed the RA-1 has no provision for local control and is not as "warm and fuzzy" as the RA-1.
