Hi All,
I have been restoring an old (1953) 600A checker and
thought I would pass on what I have found so far.
1- 47 Ohm resistor burned value changed to 35 Ohms.
There are 3 of these and i believe that they are used
as fuses.
2 - Fuse bulb (#81) burned out (actually the first
thing I checked.
3 - 135 Ohm wire wound precision resistor open.
Actually found that all of the wire wound resistors
were open. Actually easy to fix, wire was broken at
the attachment. Just unwound one turn and tinned the
wire, put a slight extension on and resoldered.
Found that the 35V AC from the transformer was NG,
open at the terminal. Once again, was able to repair
it by slodering on an extension and re-attaching the
wire.
I now have all of the voltages and will do the
calibration. Found that my ME-297 Multi-meter has
both 1K/volt and 20K/volt scales, so you don't have to
make up shunts to calibrate the Hickok if you have
that meter.
All in all, 7 different problems, including the wire
wound resistor inside the meter case. Lots of fun to
be had resurecting these, and after calibration, i can
get at some of those tubes that I have been wanting to
check.
Just wondering if anyone has a parts locator and also
how the transformer is marked for these, would have
saved some time.
Cheers,
John WD5ENU/A45XV
