[Milsurplus] TCS receiver information needed

Guys,

I am finally getting my TCS receiver working as a prelude to putting the station on the air. One of my goals is to produce an article for the Communications Receiver column for the AWA Journal, telling something about the receiver, its history, and of course, the trials and tribulations of getting one going. I am working in concert with a ham in OK who is working on a TCS station at the same time, and it will be a dual author article. Our basic approach is to restore the equipment to original state and put it on the air as such. (My hold-up was finding a receiver power cable...someone took pity on me after a year and gave me the connectors.)

So..question: Can anyone give me a capsule history of the TCS equipment, who, what where, when, why, etc? What was the experience of the ham community back in the golden surplus days? So far I have established that there were at least 13 "variants" as I have a receiver labeled TCS-13.

I know this is old stuff to the people who traveled this road a long time ago, but perhaps someone can contribute, and all such will be gratefully acknowledged. NOTE: At the same time I will endeavor to promote the MRCA, and tell readers about the folks who are interested in WW II surplus. And, of course, Ted Young's Mil Radio net on Sat AM.

Many thanks,

73, Bill w2dgb
