[Milsurplus] Marconi CSR-5

Late in 1943, the Royal Canadian Navy began to take delivery of a new LF/HF
communications receiver designed by Canadian Marconi Company, the model
CSR-5 and later, CSR-5A. They are probably the most common surplus radio to
come out of the Canadian Navy and, following the example set by the R-390(A)
crowd, I would like to poll my fellow collectors to find out how many of you
have these beasts. If you could send me the info from the data plate (type,
pattern, specification and serial numbers) on any of these receivers you
have, I may be able to determine how many of these sets were produced, when
the CSR-5A model change came about and other interesting tidbits of
information that will be posted on one of Jerry Proc's webpages. Note that
due to wartime shortages, some of the early sets do not have an ID plate and
are only identified with a serial number rubber stamped onto one of the side
panels. Finally, if any of you have manuals, there is a date from one page
that I am seeking.
Over the years I have become aware of a number of these sets in Europe,
presumably left behind by the RCN after the war. A report also suggests
there were 100 sets ordered by New Zealand in 1943 and I am especially keen
to find out if any of these survive. Please reply off-list to tgb at telus.net.
Thank-you for your help!
TB
