Clint responded to a post I submitted that got vommited by mailman's
crud strainer. Thot it was 'pump & dump.' (try Wikipedia 4 that as
W4XE did)

Any old way the 2-tone basis of the 112 mcs system was lodged in the
BC-733. Since sideband separation outa question in '43, I bet tx
had one exciter & 2 finals. One modulated by 90, other by 150cps.

My folk tale went British thot it up - but those guys loved Bendix & Clete's
Teterboro aiprort probably holds more water.

British really needed blind landing gear in their fog. Until 335mcs
ARN-5 glide-slope came along (w. exact same '733 localizer architecture)
approach altitude readings came fm marker beacons.

But why 'iron radio' subject line? Anyone who looks @ a '733 will note it's
box is copper-plated steel. It's because so many acft lost in intrument
landings that they wanted the at-first scarce rx-s to survive sudden stops

Now the I-101. BC-733 book sez readout on vert. needle. Horizontal
needle reserved for future use. Can u spell g-l-i-d-e s-l-o-p-e?

Final note. Me'n pal set up demo @ Charlotte AWA last March w. glide
slope side of SCS-51(?). Modulated 335mhz RF came fm ARN-5 TS-314(?) test
set. And boy was a good 958 acorn final trippler hard to find in year
2006. Worth it tho - ensemble took 1st... with w2cqh deserving loudest
clap.

So went the rest of the 'iron radio' story.

   Marty
