I was guessing that this was,indeed, the case.I'd guess one could make 
an LM or BC-221 into a regen rx with a reversable mod.Would that be 
blasphemous?

I know Steve.  He's a good guy & a degreed smart one too.  That '221 
was
a bookless hamfest wreck that had once been the basis of a vfo
conversion attempt

You might note his neat work.  And look @ the scope of his colleague's
efforts on that website

So easy now, big critics.  To me, salvaging one mortally wounded BC-221 
is
worth a terabyte of criticism from non-soldering purists.
