I seem to recall reading somewhere that ADF in fighters was
more common in the CBI theater, due to the long distances
involved.

But the only confirmation I can find of that in a quick search
is in one of William Green's books.

Photograph of a P-51K in China, with a Bendix Style MN-20
loop mounted just forward of the dorsal fin. Another of
his books also shows a P-51 with the same loop installatinn.
but no mention of China.
