Would be under his right elbow.
It's and SCR-274N transmitter control box, mounted sideways.
The receiver control box is odd; you can see an AN/ARC-5 dial
and the crank, but the shape of top of the box is wrong
for a 2-banger RX control box, and the fore part is strange.

Good to see they restored this aircraft
with the radios God intended....
