BUT, as my Senator Inhofe pointed out, the
current rules have always been interpreted
by the military services to be that only uniformed
personnel were permitted to salute! That was
the rule during my 20 years in USAF. Salute
only authorized when the service member was
in uniform and "covered." Members of veteran
organizations were included when those members
were in organizational uniforms. Same for Boy
Scouts and Girl Scouts.

It *allows* us? We *EARNED* that right long before this or any
congress critter came along and got us "permission". Some of aren't
here to exercise it so, if nothing else, we're honoring their memory.
We don't need anyone's permission to do that.
