Rich:

If you can't find a true 12 VDC-operated laptop, consider using a 120 VAC inverter running off that same battery. I have several inverters that I bought really cheap over the years for just such a purpose.

Subject: [MRCA] OT: Army MARS & Computers

I recently joined Army MARS and I want to expand my comm capabilities.

My truck has HF/V/UHF capability. All modes including data. My problem is I
need a small (as in s-m-a-l-l ) laptop that uses 12-14V DC as opposed to
these exotic 19, 21, 24 VDC models. I need to power it directly from the
truck's battery supply. It doesn't have to be a Pentium machine but at least
an old 486 DX100 would be nice.

Anybody have any ideas as to make/model I need to look for???

One other thing: I had thought about adding a second battery (deep cycle
marine) to the truck's system to power the radio equipment. Has anyone done
this to their mobile installation? If so, please contact me off-list as I
have some questions.

Thanks in advance. Pls reply off-list, as I shotgunned this to several
lists.
