Hue and whoever else may be interested in this,

Here is the website (n German) which gives step-by-step instructions how to
substitute a GU-50 (easily and fairly inexpensively obtained) for an LS-50:

 http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Bastelschule/Fassungsherstellung.htm

There is more info here:

http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Verstaerker/LS50.htm

and here:

http://www.jogis-roehrenbude.de/Russian/GU50.htm

Sockets:

What's this involve, filing out the socket pins?
Do you think it structurally weakens the socket?
I refuse to pay escalated prices for tubes that are non-magic,
merely in short supply, and not even guaranteed to be good.
I had been wondering what to do about the LS-50.
