Yo Mike, u wondered

For those that wonder, the ARR2 is the ARR-1/ZB 240 mhz trf & a BC-946 (or
other) bcb rx-in-one.
My guess is they were used by returning bombers to find their base.
But then there's the ARA-8 homing system for the SCR-522's rx. Appears
system evidence is a pair of whips on roof of B-17/24 bomber
side-by side that were double-phase-harnessed so fig-8 peak on one
harness was a few deg.s off fig.-8 peak on other (read end-fire Adcock).
Then there was a relay that switched back and forth so morse "D" came
thru one & switch-complement morse "U" came thru other. RF between
that relay & 522's rx was chopped at 400hz so no-bfo bc-624(5?) rx
would have a mcw tone. And, of cours, if you were "on the beam" you'd
hear a steady tone - and if you passed the base, you'd be in cardiod
null of the end-fire Adcocks & SOL.
Was a kind of reverse A-N radio range where switching at rx rather than
tx end*.
A Ft. Monmouth alum regurged this to me yesterday -AND- sed system was
retreaded in 'nam as the ARN-28(or something). Here the antennas were
vertical 6' 40mhz +/- dipoles that sat on spears in front of a UH1.
This way the Hughey cud home on a grunt w. a PRC-6.
Man there's SO MUCH of this stuff right under the surface!!!
Ask me about the tactical one-time crypts employing the CV-305 rtty
demod that ran on & on in 'nam. YUP, the CV-305 was p/o a "spy
radio" system, a system for which the revered but common CV-116 was
unfit.

*anyone remember the pic of the Aussie B-24 with half-yagis out the side?
Ft Monmouth alum sed this was developed by US & was a J-V system.
Ya know, I wonder if a 4-6 variant ever emerged? Last code-complement
pair
AND, I'm wondering about the Double Ducky DF deal fm 7-81 / 5-82 QST.
Have the 5/82 guy built in bsmt but doc. gone Gotta be a parrallel -
any scans out there pse?
My dang fingers ache
