That will work, but you will have to be very careful about operating 
when the batteries are on charge, which will be around 2 volts above 
the maximum ratings for most 12 volt radios.  Expected max charge 
voltage for 12 volt lead acid batteries is 14.4 to 14.8 V depending 
on temperature, and will be as much as 17.26 volts for 7 cells under 
full charge at low temperature.  I would be reluctant to put over 15 
volts on my radios.
