BC-348 restore, Purchased this set in 1971 did a lot of restoration
back then, never had to touch the RF/OSC cans till now.
HERE IS my QUESTION how "fix" band 6 Air Padder? How to, "fix", keep
shaft from rotating while tightening the NUT on Air Padder? Tried this
on a dammaged Air padder knocked the plates out!@#!
I have a similar problem as ramcam at magma.ca with a single band "6" where
the Air padder will not settle down.
After cleaning all units with contact cleaner. Reinstalling all the
units. Attempted to tune up.
IF peaked up.
BFO peaked up.
OSC peaked up on 5 of 6 bands not band 6. Touching the padder cause
movement in the frequency, not good.
Detector peeked up on 6 of 6 bands leaving band 6 close but not on
frequency.
2nd RF peaked up same as detector.
First RF ANT unit did not peak at all on any bands!
Removed the ANT RF unit.
Padder band 2 burnt plates! Replaced this padder.
ANT trimmer minor burnt plate on tip. Smoothed the burnt spot out
tested with CAP meter. Good not quite 100pF.
Checked all caps for value and voltage: One .01uf 500WV +/- 5% Mica
on band bad < 1/2 value, in process of
replacing.
Cleaned the whole unit with contact cleaner again.
Waiting on replacement part.
Removed the OSC unit.
Disconnected band 6 air padder passed all tests for value and voltage?!
Fixed cap across band 6 padder passed all tests for value and voltage?!
Checked the .01uf 500WV on plate supply and bias in Grid Coils all
passed tests for value and voltage.
100K resistor grid bias resistor measured 130+K replacing resistor.
All other resistors measured extremely close to target values.
Cleaned the whole unit with contact cleaner again.
Wife gettin ancy about using the dining room.@#! Cant blame her but the
garage is to hot Texas.
HERE IS my QUESTION how "fix" band 6 Air Padder? How to, "fix", keep
shaft from rotating while tightening the NUT on Air Padder.
Thanks
Hutch
