Kees,

CW is the nomenclature for covers, bags and rolls. Some are metal
(CW-109/GRC-9 is front cover panel for RT-77(*)/GRC-9), some are canvas (CW-187/GR is
the canvas antenna roll supplied with MX-898/GR), some might be wood, although I
can't recall an example right off. What you found inside of the bag may (and
in this case probably) have nothing to do with the set that the bag was
originally made for.

The latest manual I have on AN/CRT-3 is dated 1951 and there is no
CW-184/CRT-3 shown in it. However, I suspect that the bag you have may be for the kite
and for the balloon inflation tube, although the '51 manual says it is 24"
long and only gives a Sig Stk Nr. but no nomenclature.

It is possible that the military itself reused the bag for another
application. An excellent example is the reuse of CW-50/TRC-7 to hold Ground Plane
Antenna RC-292. Or somone not military may have bought the bag from Academy and
put that antenna in it. The antenna itself does not sound like military gear.
A black anodized pole would show up like gangbusters both at visible and
infrared wavelengths.

But in any case, the nomenclature you have is for the bag, not the antenna.
