It's my understanding that CB/S9 actually became Popular
Communications when the CB boom of the 70s died out in the early 80s.
They had been adding more stuff like scanners, SWL, etc and eventually
just morphed into a magazine that appealed to a larger audience.

In one of his columns he mentioned being a DJ at some tiny, unheard of
station years ago, but that's all I recall about his broadcast past.

And a further qualification of his abilities along with his Trans Am
and whatever else, he was buddies with the (sorta) pop star Gary 'US'
Bonds.

It was always a toss up to me who was weirder/shiftier: Cowan or Wayne
Green. Tom Kneitel was always amusing and relatively level-headed in
comparison.
