Here's a start:

Bill Orr, W6SAI through Editors and Engineers published:
"The Surplus Radio Conversion Manual"
Volume 1, 1st ed. Orange cover, 6½" X 9½" 1948
Volume 1, 2nd ed.   ditto
Volume 2  Green cover, same size, same date
Volume 3  Blue cover, 8½" X 11"  1960

I *think* someone may have reprinted these after the copyright ran 
out.

CQ (Cowan) published an "Anthology" 1945 - 1952, (102-1, 1958, white 
cover with black and blue printing) which contained an extensive 
numer of conversion articles.  I thought they may have published at 
least one stand alone surplus manual, but I can't lay my hands on one 
at the moment.

It seemed like half the early issues of 73 published by Wayne Green 
were surplus conversion issues.  The most famous started: "Remove 
everything from the chassis except the tube socket in the right rear 
corner."  Although that may have appeared in an April issue.
