With all this, it would be wonderful to know who actually made the
various sets other than A.R.C.. I don't care so much about contract
numbers or quantities (well, total quantities of the big pieces would
be cool but I think I have that somewhere in my notes) but rough dates
would be helpful to piece together the history side of the book. I
know about Stromberg-Carlson and Western Electric (and how WE was
gracious enough to pick up the project because poor little A.R.C. bit
off more than they could chew and wasn't big enough to handle the
production on their own) and the vacuum cleaner company the (name of
which escapes me at the moment) who couldn't fulfill a post-war
contract for 1000 R-23As, but were there others?
General Radio, Bendix, and RCA are ones that come to mind.
Have personally seen units with those nameplates (yep, they even
found their way to ZL).
Other than reading the manufacturer's nameplate, it is not possible
to determine which company actually assembled a particular unit.
All units are absolutely identical, so apparently A.R.C. retained
absolute control over manufacture and supply of components, with
the contracted companies doing little more than assembling the units.
Maybe assembled units were even shipped to A.R.C. for alignment
and testing prior to delivery.
