I put an RT-311 on the air about a year ago, stock, feeding it 400 cycle 
and 28VDC.
The control head was the C-3428, which is the SSB head, but it worked 
for basic
AM just fine.  The major problem I encountered is that the 
SMO/synthesizer system
was picky about what frequencies it would lock up on, and that lockup 
was somewhat
temperature sensitive. But when it worked, it put out an easy 100+ 
watts. But it
definitely is *not* a band cruiser, changing channels took about 15 to 
20 seconds.

Speaking of the R-648, anyone have a parts unit? I need one of the front 
panel handles,
Fair is out of them.
