Mike and the Group,
Well, we definitely out did the Germans by shear technological
manpower in science,physics,manufacturing,resources,etc. of every
nature.I am sure there were many German scientists and engineers
frustrated by the lack of the aforementioned. The ME-262 and the V-1,2
were certainly no laughing matter to the British and our Airmen; and
the captured scientists after the war certainly boosted the US (and the
USSR) technologically by possibly eliminating decades of trial and
error. They did have to learn how to package their electronics to
survive sub- space altitudes, which you might argue were mechanical in
nature.I do not discredit the German people in their technical
abilities.(the fact that they followed a nut case into total disaster
is another issue).
But,yes ,I agree with you in that the Germans do produce very high
quality mechanics;I have 3 vintage Volkswagens,(the '61 Bug is a daily
driver now that gas$ are off the charts),and a substantial collection
of Marklin HO scale model trains. And, one of my favorite movies is the
original "Flight of the Phoenix".
Do you have a website?I'd like to see your collectin sometime.I am
slowly getting my life in order and hope to have a site up in the next
year.
 Regards,
             Jay KE6PPF

I think that the Germans are sometimes given too much credit for
technological
innovation. I would give them credit in areas that are essentially
mechanical
in nature.
