Think i've told this one before. I had one of these in the MARS station
up in Northern Michigan when i was stationed back in the early 60's.
Never heard anything but noise on it cause there wasn't any 2 meter work
going on that i knew about at the time. didn't know what else might
have been up there but as we were way out in the boonies probably
wouldn't have heard much anyway. But as i continue, the station was in
one room of the base communications building and outside the hallway
door and about 10 feet away was the base switchboard. Bunch of fun
folks lived and worked there. Anyway as i was playing around i started
getting some feedback from the operators saying that the base commander
was calling in to see who was ringing his phone. Seems that as i tuned
across a certain part of the spectrum the receiver generated enough of a
harmonic/signal to tickle the circuit into generating a ring. Don't ask
me how it worked cause i didn't ask but had fun tweaking the receiver
back and forth sometimes to hear him call the op's a question their
integrity and in a rather loud voice demand that the base comm officer
find out immediately who was doing this.

One Monday the 2nd john base comm officer (2nd Lt. for those uninformed)
visited me in the vault and suggested that whatever i was doing to quit
doing it or there would be yellow and black tape across the entrance to
the station and AP's investigating the headless body found therein. Had
a hard time saying "yes sir" with out laughing. Needless to say that
shortly there after the rack disappeared and i never heard anymore from
the base operators. Poor guy. i never confessed either.

The 2nd john? We was good partying and drinking buddies.
