Okay, I've got some idiot questions regarding the subject set. First,
does it really need the amplifier attached to it to operate or can it
work independently? Second, what's the output impedance of the
exciter? Third, where does the modulation actually take place, the
exciter or the PA? (I can see design possibilities that would allow
either.)
What I'm thinking about is using the R-662 or R-834 to drive a *gasp*
civilian linear to around 100 or so watts. The one I'm thinking about
is fairly broadband and inexpensive ... plus is not the power hog the
stock one is. (Also quieter, for those individuals who like their
hearing.) Since I'm planning to run SSB & RTTY, it would be
convenient to know if I have to do any other twitching to make this a
smooth conversion.
BEst regards,
Michael, K3MXO/KH6
