All too true about the RAL, but with experience I am developing respect 
for the 'ol gal.  I also think the two rf stages contribute some noise, 
but it isn't a problem.  I am working on a second one, and will leave it 
stock (don't open the audio bandwidth) for comparison.

The RAZ is clearly an RMCA product with a navy tag.  They did that with 
a lot of marine equipment.  I hadn't noticed the alternate crystal 
detector...it's a good idea when you're out at sea all alone.
