[Milsurplus] RAO-3 Help Needed

Guys, I'm fiddling with an RAO-3. It has a problem that I need your help
on.

The 6.4-14.8 mHz band is dead. The others are fine, except that I have to
fiddle with the bandswitch to get them to work.

Here are my questions:

1. What's the recommended way to clean and adjust the coil-shift mechanism?
I was planning to work on the stationary contacts on the underside of the
chassis. I plan to clean them with Deoxit and pinch them with a needle-nose
pliers. Any problems with this? Anything else I should do?

2. What's the way to check to see if I have an open coil on that band? It
looks like I can remove the bottom of the moving coil assembly by removing
24 (!) screws. Is that the way to proceed? Any other ideas?

3. Is there any way to get at the contacts on the undersides of the coils
themselves?

4. My understanding is that the filter caps on this set are not
electrolytic. What do you recommend for replacement?

This is a nice set. It appears to be all original and was overhauled at
Portsmouth in 1954.

I must emphasize how much I appreciate the help I've gotten from the people
on this list. I don't know whether I'm more impressed with your willingness
to help or with the depth of your knowledge. Either way, I am very
grateful.

Joe Connor
