[Milsurplus] fix for GRR-5 rectifier problems?

A friend of mine owns a GRR-5 receiver.  It's a
beater, but it works on battery power.  All the
rectifiers are blown, so battery power only.  I met a
guy at the Gilbert, PA MCRA meet, who told me that
this radio has a simple, under $10 fix that some
hammers have done to install diodes to bypass the
original rectifiers.  My friend would really like to
hear any info about this fix, so he can get his rig
back in operation on regular power options, without
having to solder together a battery pack all the time.
 

Any help is much appreciated.
