Well, that was an interesting exercise. Having got the rx working after a
change of audio o/p valve the transmitter was looked at. Out of the case of
course.

You have to hand it to the original designers. The little rx works really
well even using just 5 feet of wire as the aerial. Even the stability was good,
feeding the set from an adjustable bench ht psu even swinging the ht up and
down hardly moved the tuning, even copying ssb stations last night.

Transmitter !! Took some time to figure out why the mod was not working.
Who's stupid idea was it to carry the mod stage screen voltage via the plug to
the rx and back ? Anyway, after trying numerous 3A4 tubes I decided they could
not all be duff (mmmm, beer !!) so another look at my poor quality circuit
revealed that the screen volts for the mod amp did go via the 6 pin Jones plug
to the rx. Once I linked out that little darling the mod was working. The
T-17 I found out to use though had a carbon resistor for a mic insert. I
replaced it with an electret and BC-109 and its now working fine.

So, I now have a working 1306, cannot wait to try it out on the air. Also
sussed the need for a 1.8 Mhz +- xtal to get onto 80 Mtrs, another little hicup
in the world of radio, hi.

Good couple of days play though.
