Wasn't one of the ironies of the Israeli 1948 war that
Egypt was attacking Israeli B-17s(escorted by Israeli
ME-109s) with P-51s ?
Well....It was all surplus and the Axis stuff was available for REAL cheap,
`8^o=. I remember seeing MG42 machine guns in the Middle East for quite a
while. Hey!...If it works.... When I used to drive between Tel Aviv and
Haifa there were check points using US WWII halftracks refitted with diesel
engines. Along that line does anyone remember 'Around The Bend' by Neville
Schute?(sp?) It was about a Brit setting up a post WWII air service and
going 'native'. 'Trustee from the Toolroom' is another of his books that
would be a good read for BoatAnchor folks.
