Definitely. I was surprised to read recently  (in Max
Hastings' book ARMAGEDDON) that during the battle of
the bulge, Eisenhower is supposed to have requested
that 100,000 marines be transferred into the ETO to
fight Germans. Hastings says he was turned down. But
that's a story I hadn't heard before.
