I'm suggesting that the pilots didn't need control of the transmitter 
frequency.
They worked duplex. Orders such as compass heading issued on the XXXX,
YYYY, ZZZZ .... frequencies at every change and Roger'd by each pilot on
the fixed Roger channel. The enemy would never be sure when the frequency
change was about to take place, and would miss the vital information given
immediately after the change.

Did they do that? I dunno, but given the same equipment and circumstances
it's exactly what I would do.
