> The ATB components, especially the mounting rails, seem to have disappeared to Neptune. I've only been able to locate an ATB and the metering unit. I don't care that much for the design. I'd have expected the ATB and ARB to have at least hade the same shape and form factor, but they are very different. What was RCA thinking?

Perhaps it was not an issue. For that matter, was it an issue for any
set? None of the receivers or transmitters in sets from World War 2
are nice matching units. The ARA/ATA sets were different sizes, as
were the parts of AN/ARC-3, various SCR-s, and so forth. You can not
really fault RCA for that.

At least ARB/ATB, like most RCA sets, are pretty good ergonomically.
About the only thing iffy with the ATB in this area are the dial
locks, and maybe the PA tuning knob (too much stuff happening there).
ARB is very good - RCA was thinking there.

ARC on the other hand, was not thinking with ARA/ATA. While the sets
may be good, cheap, manufacturable radios (something ATB is not), lets
face it - ergonomically they suck.
