All: Not to belabor this, but the Victory at Sea musical score repeats 12
musical themes throughout the entire production. According to Wikipedia,
Richard Rodgers composed the original themes, while Bennett actually scored
the production. I'd love to know what each of the 12 themes were (I found a
program that identified 9 of them, but no score so I could look for them
throughout the production). A more modern example of the same thing is the
score from the original STAR WARS movie. John Williams identified what each
of the themes he introduced in the score represented; it was pretty
fascinating to read and listen.

I've watched the whole thing a few times. Some of the episodes are better
than others, but overall for 1952 TV I think they did a pretty fair job. My
dad was in the ETO (helped liberate Buchenwald), and I've done a lot of
historical digging to try to understand not only the war itself but all the
events that led to it. No question that the US bungled a lot of stuff along
the way, but so for that matter did everyone else. The biggest bungle was
waiting so long to deal with the issues, but that's definitely another
matter. What it really illustrates to me is what happens when we put off
doing the right things.

My opinion only, and all comments are welcome; please reply off-list so
others aren't bothered.

Thanks,
Dave WB4FUR
