I have an old telescoping whip from some forgotten mil radio. It is 16" long collapsed, and 13/16 diameter, 10 sections, and a 3/8" X 24 stud on the bottom and a chained cap for the top. Extends to 12 feet plus, but that is the problem. This has been stored between uses in my bench drawer, is still oily looking and feeling, but has gotten almost impossible to telescope. Given its size, apparently it is made with a lot closer tolerances than the average telescoping whip, so what is the recommended care and lubrication for something like this? I guess you don't want it too slick, so it doesn't self collapse, but in its present condition, I greatly fear bending one of the smaller diameter sections every time I extend or collapse it. Any help appreciated.
