I attended the Aberdeen East Coast Military Vehicle Rally last week
and am happy to report that the presence of Amateur Radio military radio
collectors was very strong. There have been several discussions on this list
about the liaison between the military vehicle collectors and Amateur
Radio military radio collectors. I am happy to report that it is going
well here on the East Coast. The rally weather was CAVOK and the site chosen
for the Rally at Ripen stadium was excellent.
I was especially pleased to find out several weeks ago that Louie,
KA2PFL was the Communications Officer in charge of the communications for
the East Coast Convoy that I Joined up with on Thursday, Louie used a
combination of Amateur Radio and FRS and he and his co-pilot Meg N2GUU had
their hands full but all commo went off without a hitch and it was smooth
sailing for the 55 MPH convey on the busy I-95. The predeparture comm plan
was excellent. Concerning I-95 ---- I was quite comfortable tucked in
between several "Duce and a Half" trucks.
I did my usual set up at the rally on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday
and operated the GRC-9 and PRC-47 quite a bit. Standard 51.0 Mcs was used on
FM. I did manage to overcome poor conditions and check into the Saturday
morning East Coast Military Net on 3885 kcs with a 32 foot AT-1011 whip
and a two wire counter poise . Net control was W3PWW. Lots of military
radio equipment and accessories was available for sale. I will try and
published the rally pictures sometime in the near future, Hams and
collectors extraordinaire that were in attendance were:
