well this is all well and good but if we all did this then no-one would be able to 'collect' anything other than their own countries gear, so, all those 'collections' around the world would be rather boring. 
 
If you were talking about the only copy of that decleration of independence thingy you have over there then there might be a case. If its a bit of old radio kit then really whats the problem. It'll probably come back when the next generation sells it after the guys death and the highest bidder buys it. 
 
Further, this particular US relic cannot be that 'important' if an outside bidder bought it ? 
 
As someone else said, if you do not want world wide bids on your treasure either ask a fixed price locally or don't advertise it for the max you can get on a world wide site.
