Regarding the vernier I asked about (pics at www.hamnutz.com/w1eof/vern):

>From Perry, W8AU:
Yes. It is the "multiplier tuning" control, or the output tuning for the
HF section 837 Master Oscillator. The "multiplier tuning" label is missing
from the top of your mounting plate. Your dial is shown as the "E" control,
located at the bottom of the RF section (above the power supply section)
left side, just to the right of the MO tuning dial.

The TDE is a dual transmitter, HF & MF, 300 kHz - 1.5 MHz and 1.5 - 18.1
MHz. Your dial was a part of the HF xmtr. Tube lineup = 837 MO, 807 IPA
(buffer) and 803 final amp. Capable of 200W output, CW, MCW and 50W AM.

Only 800 lbs... they don't make 'em like this anymore! :-) (it was a real
"heavy" project rebuilding this rig after 40 years of non-use)

The TDE aboard USS LST325 "cruising" Museum ship sees active service during
my monthly visits and when I am aboard for cruises.

Mystery solved. That's one COOL looking transmitter. Anyone else want one?
