Speaking of that:
I have a big set of full-size blueprints for the antennas a
nd some radio outfitting for some Navy ships in early 1945.
"Antenna System Type Arrangement
Light Cruisers CL-193,194,195-198" (undated)
Antennas shown include a whip for SCR-608,
one mounted on one top side of the forward funnel.
On the other top side of the funnel is a whip for an MN.
Other Navy set radio antennas on these cruisers included
2 BNs, 2 BKs, 2 TBSs , TDQ/RCK, TBL, TDE,
2 TCSs, 2 TBMs.
"LSM(R)
Fire Support Ships Antenna Arrangements
3 Feb. 1945"
includes two SCR-608s with horizontally seperated
transmit and receive antenna whips and an SCR-610.
Navy set antennas are 2 TCSs, RAO, RBO, TDE,
MBF and RBL.
"Combat Loaded Transports
APA-236 to -247 Inclusive
Antenna System Type Arrangement,
April 2, 1945"
Includes "green radios:"
3 SCR-508s in the Pilot House
2 SCR-508s in Flag Plot
2 SCR-608s in Pilot House
4 SCR-608s in Flag Plot
2 SCR-608s in CIC
SCR-510 in Pilot House
SCR-624 in Radio One
Navy sets include DAS Loran, TBM, TCP, TDE, TBK,
TCS, RBH, TAJ and several just marked
"Radio REC Antenna" for RADIO I, RADIO II and RADIO III-
no notation of what were the receivers.
The grandaddy is
"Headquarters Communicaton Vessel AGC 15-17 inclusive
Receiving Antenna Coaxial Transmission Lines
Interconnection Wiring Diagram, Nov. 29, 1944."
It just shows the receivers and their antenna connectons.
The thing is hip-deep in radios, the outputs of which can be
piped all over the ship wherever needed.
There are:
2 RAOs
3 RAKs
3 RALs
8 RBAs
10 RBBs
25 RBCs
4 RBLs
5 RBOs
9 RBSs
2 LRs (only two??)
All going to the "mother of all antenna patch panels."
I also have a blueprint on how the SCR-508s and -608s
were modified for shipboard use, dated May 5, 1945.
The mods to the mounting bases installed the capacity to
switch which receiver of the installed green radios
went to which ship intercom system.
Pretty interesting drawings.
I haven't got anything like the means to copy them; too big.
