Several bypass capacitors in the RF section of the "H" model (as
well as
the other models) are 1000 vdc paper. I have Orange Drop caps to
replace these, however, they are 600 vdc. I can't see the absolute need
for the 1000 vdc in most instances. I have high voltage ceramic disc
capacitors I could use, but I'd prefer film.
Any thoughts?
Rick
IIRC, Rick, you are working on a BC-610. H. Even if not, it depends on the application. If those caps are bypassing RF, the ceramics are a better choice. OTOH, if a stable capacitance value is required, then the foil types are the way to go, unless you go to the much more expensive +/-10% ceramics. The voltage rating may have been driven by RF current requirements, rather than absolute voltage, but again, need to look at the circuit to tell, and I have no idea where my 610 papers are, or if I even still have them. Modern capacitors are different than legacy stuff, so some rethinking is often needed. Sometimes if you want to restore plus improve performance, you have to resort to tricks like hollowed out old component bodies with new components inside.
Hope this was more helpful then confusing.
