[Milsurplus] Acronyms

I have seen many acronyms used to convey more than one thing even within in
the same service. The FAA is a good example, almost every one in the FAA
knew that ILS meant Instrument Landing System, almost, there were some FAA
at the FAA Depot at Oklahoma City (later to be renamed the Logistics Center)
who used ILS to mean Integrated Logistic System. Even with a new
procuremetn of ILS the ILS would have to be incorporated. The ILS included
not only repair parts (both common and peculiar) but the maintenance plan
and support.

I was temporary assigned to PROVMAAGK when stationed in Korea. Huh! It
stands for Provisional Military Assistance and Advisory Group-Korea. I have
seen MAC used both ways.

I think one who decides to use acronyms should only use them if the intended
reader would be familiar enough understand and in the case of dual meanings
it is clear which definition is intended.

PRT could just as easily been pulse repetition time.
