Hi, Larry,

the APN-1 would also be tied in with the Altitude hold
portion of an autopilot where in this case it's
strictly the Vertical FLight Gyro.
I wonder what the APN-1's autopilot coupling connected
to then. On staring at the schematic for a while,
there are two pots that form a trimmable portion of
the altitude limit circuit and two inductors which I
assume are relay coils for a kind of bang-bang
altitude control.
> I'll have to look at my B-24 manuals and see how
it's tied together there and if they use this version
of the C-1 or something newer.
Since the APN-1's upper limit was 4,000 feet as
opposed to the SCR-718's limit of ... um, 40,000?
50,000? feet, it was probably used more for approach
and departure than anything else. It was also used in
a whole bunch of airplanes that had nothing to do with
dropping bombs (unless accidently) such as the various
versions of the Beech 18 (C-45 et al) and the DC-3
(C-47 et al).
Okay, I guess I add copies of the APN-1 manuals to the
ever growing list. (I'm trying to avoid an aircraft
specific set of manuals though I may have to go that
route as well.)
Best regards,
Michael, K3MXO
