NO.  to Quote from the manual, "If the nose of the airplane should drop, 
The Vertical Flight Gyro detects the vertical deviation and operates the 
Elevator Pickup pot, which sends an electrical signal to the Elevator 
section of the amplifier."

Vertical flight deviation which would show up with the APN-1 would also 
be tied in with the Altitude hold portion of an autopilot where in this 
case it's strictly the Vertical FLight Gyro.

I'll have to look at my B-24 manuals and see how it's tied together 
there and if they use this version of the C-1 or something newer.
