[Milsurplus] B-29 Reverse Propellers Switch

Hi All,

Firstly, a Big thank you to the site moderators and all the participants for a truly interesting and informative site!

On the recently referenced site tour of the B-29 radio posiitons I noticed the above switch and wondered just how it was used. I can't visualize that much horsepower and propeller weight being stopped and reversed in-fligt or on the runway in a usable period of time. Or was it only for an immediate stop to let the attacking Jap zeros go zooming right on by?
