There is an excellent book on this topic - out of print but you can find
it through abebooks.com

America's pursuit of precision bombing, 1910-1945 by Stephen L. McFarland

It goes into the fact that Norden didn't like to do anything electrically,
so it was up to others to connect the bomb sight to the autopilot.  And
before that was done they had a thing called PDI which allowed the bomb
sight to give instructions to the human pilot.
